For anyone who doesn’t know me personally my name is Wes. I grew up in rural west Texas where I got an appreciation for all things flat. I left the state in 2002 to attend university in Colorado where I got my first real taste of the alpine world. However, it wasn’t until I moved to the Pacific North West in 2010 that I really started getting into climbing. For me it was love at first belay.
My climbing career started off with the Mountaineers in Tacoma. During this intro mountaineering course I got my first semi-technical rock summit: The Tooth in the central Cascades. That was soon followed by a few glaciated peaks in Washington and several more rock peaks. At the same time I started getting into sport climbing which quickly led to trad climbing. Before I knew it the mountains had taken over my life and I loved it!
Since then climbing has taken me all over the U.S. and the world. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have had some pretty amazing adventures and to have met some of the most inspiring, down to earth people along the way. I’ll be sharing some of those stories here and hope they entertain and possibly even inspire you to climb your own mountains.
My writing is sometimes done in high places where the oxygen deprivation makes editing a bit difficult. Other times, you get to see that oxygen deprivation doesn’t really affect my editing. I’ll attempt to add in the humor and emotions that make these experiences worth sharing in the first place. If you read through and you find yourself wanting to hear more about a particular subject, use the contact page or comments to let me know. Finally, if you like reading about mountain musings and don’t want to miss an update, there is a “subscribe” button somewhere over on the side. You’ll get notifications of all my posts and updates as I attempt to stand on high rocks all over the world.
Cheers,
-Wes
